EMDR therapy in Pittsburgh, PA and throughout
Pennsylvania via telehealth
You’ve tried everything you can think of to feel better, but nothing’s resolved the hurt down deep inside.
Maybe you’ve been to therapy before, but found that the therapist just sat there and expected you to talk without giving you any guidance on how the therapy process works. Or, perhaps you feel like you’ve done the talk therapy route and know that there must be something deeper you can experience because you recognize the depth of your hurt or struggle is so much more than you’ve ever been able to get to just by talking or thinking differently. This is because trauma is not stored in the brain and body like typical experiences. Trauma is processed by different parts of the brain with different nervous system activation than the everyday experiences that are not traumatic in nature.
But you’re still feeling…
Triggered by certain people, situations, words, or experiences.
Disconnected or reactive in relationships.
Overwhelmed by feelings and thoughts that cause disturbance in your life.
EMDR therapy can help you to eliminate the source of distressful feelings.
EMDR is an evidence-based method that helps you to process the traumatic experience in a safe and regulated way so that the disturbance of the triggering event is neutralized. You will still remember the experience or feeling, but you won’t feel the same disturbing charge after completing EMDR. After EMDR, your brain and body will know how to process and file the experience so that it registers as something that happened in the past rather than something that continues to feel present. …And you experience peace.
-
EMDR consists of 8 phases that include tools for reducing disturbance, identifying negative core beliefs, selecting target(s) to process, assisting your processing through all channels of memory: brain, body, emotions, spirit, and adaptive information, resulting in freedom from disturbing experiences through new, healthier, and more helpful processing experiences.
-
You can expect a comprehensive assessment of your needs and goals as they relate to your lived experience and disturbance points. Together, we will select the targets you would like help to process, and the support for each phase of EMDR processing that you complete.
-
EMDR can help you to gain deeper insights, heal unresolved trauma and pain, and develop new tools and awareness so that you can live more free, peacefully, and show up more present and empowered in your life.

You cannot do EMDR wrong. As a certified EMDR therapist, I will help you to prepare for the experience, guide you should you get stuck, and assist you in keeping your focus on the helpful information from each processing “set.” Your job is simply to notice what happens during each “set” and provide me with most noticed part at that moment…a thought, body sensation, feeling, memory, etc…. There is no “right” or “wrong” in EMDR, it is simply noticing what comes up between beginning processing on a target of disturbance and resolution of the disturbance through reprocessing.
